a much needed getaway

Sometimes you just need to get away…

I absolutely love my job!  And living almost on the equator has it’s perks too!  But living in a different culture can be mentally exhausting.  This is where I’m at.  Ex.hau.sted.  Exhausted with the horrendous traffic and people cutting you off and walking in front of you constantly… because you know people die from such reckless behavior!  Exhausted with communication barriers.  Exhausted with the weight of creating/providing work for the ladies that either makes or breaks their rent and food on the table.  Exhausted from missing loved ones and home.

And so to keep myself sane, I’m learning to rest.  This weekend I just needed to get away.  So with the help of some friends, I learned about a place called Whistling Thorns Ranch.  It is about an hour from our house and out in the country, away from any village or city or duka or home… just out in the wide open of Kenya near the base of the Ngong Hills.  It was beautiful country and I placed myself at their outdoor cafe and pool for the day, just staring out at the gorgeous vistas {when awake!}.  See my yellow towel at the right just below?  That’s where I spent 4 hours on Saturday… NICE!

I just had to photograph this speed bump sign… made me smile!

And random shot/event of the day… seeing an abandoned amusement park on the side of the road in the middle of the African bush… ?!  I’m pretty certain I will never go no that ferris wheel!
